It all began in 1923 with a man, Antonio Calligaris and a "Marocca" chair. Calligaris' founder, Antonio began his small artisanal business by producing the"Marocca" chair, a wooden chair with a hand-woven seat and slightly curved legs. Over the past 90 years, the Calligaris company, currently presided over by Alessandro Calligaris, has become a leading name in the home furnishing sector, promoting tradition, ethics and dedication, which characterizes its quality standards, as well as research, design and innovation.

The Calligaris group employs 600 staff, has distribution branches in the USA and Japan, and owns five manufacturing plants, one of which is in Croatia, and distributes its products in 90 countries around the world.  In 2008 Calligaris opened its first flagship store in Milan and in May 2012 the second flagship store was opened in Paris in Rue du Bac. Calligaris is currently present with over 70 single-brand stores in major cities around the world including: Rome, Barcelona, Madrid, London, Istanbul, Moscow, Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Seoul, New York, Washington, Miami and Toronto.
